Cluster 2006 is pleased to announce that the IEEE Computer Society's Technical Committee on Scalable Computing (TCSC http://ieeetcsc.org/), and the editor and authors of Beowulf Cluster Computing, published by MIT Press, have made $8000 available for the partial reimbursement of travel expenses for students attending the 2006 IEEE International Conference on Cluster Computing (Cluster 2006, http://www.cluster2006.org/) being held in Barcelona in September, 2006. The travel assistance funds will be used for the reimbursement of travel expenses, up to $500 for European students and up to $1000 for other students.

 Eligibility requirements:

  • Each student must be a student member of the IEEE Computer Society, and a member of TCSC. A student who is not already a member may join the IEEE Computer Society by clicking on "Join" at http://computer.org/ and may join TCSC at http://ieeetcsc.org/join.html

  • Each student must create publicly available Web pages (in at least English, and possibly additional languages, if desired describing their research, current work, progress, links to similar work, and the benefits of their research to the wider academic and commercial communities. The Web pages should written in valid XHTML 1.1.

 Preference will be given to students who will be presenting a paper (as first author) at the meeting. An awards committee consisting of Mark Baker (Reading), Daniel S. Katz (LSU) and Ira Pramanick (Sun) will select the awarded recipients based on the evaluation of the application material.

 Deadline: 15th August 2006

Announcement of Awardees: 1st September 2006

 Apply via email to <mark.baker at computer.org> by sending the following information.

  • A letter from the student describing his/her academic standing and interests, his/her expected graduation date and degree, advisor's name, and, if available, a link to the student's web page. In a statement of 500 words or less, the student should indicate why attending the meeting would be useful for his/her research or career.
  • A short vita that includes the student's research interests, projects, and papers published.
  • A letter of recommendation from the student's advisor.
  • The student's IEEE Computer Society membership number. (A student who has joined the IEEE Computer Society recently and does not yet have a membership number may state this, and should indicate the date she or he joined.)
  • If applicable, the title(s) of the paper(s) to be presented (co-authored) by the student at the meeting.
  • A link to the Web pages that describe their research.

 Notes: All these documents must be sent together in a single email.  The email subject must include the words “Cluster 2006 Student Travel Assistance"
