---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Colleagues, This is in continuation to the recent discussion on naming and the future of the TFCC. During the recent IEEE Computer Society Technical Activities Board (TAB) meeting, held on June 10-11, 2004 in Los Angles, The TFCC and the Technical Committee on Supercomputing Applications (TCSA) submitted a joint proposal for merger and requested a new Technical Committee on Scalable Computing (TCSC) be created. A copy of presentation slides can be found at: http://www.ieeetfcc.org/annual-reports/TFCC_TCSA_Merger_TCSC.ppt We are pleased to inform you that the entire TAB membership supported our proposal to merge the TFCC and TCSA and form the TCSC. After the TAB meeting, Yervant Zorian, Chair of the CS TAB, presented to the CS Board of Governors, the TAB decision to create the new TCSC. The proposal was well received and its confirmation was unanimously voted for. This means our merger proposal to create a new TC on Scalable Computing (TCSC) is formally approved by the Computer Society. What next? We will now have to work with TCSA executive on the actual details of the merger process that brings together the membership and activities of both groups. This effort will include writing a new charter also forming a management infrastructure for the TCSC. We will no doubt be sending out emails requesting your comments and ideas as we start to sort out these details. In the meantime your suggestions, comments, and novel ideas about what the TCSC should cover and focus on will be gratefully appreciated. Thank you for supporting the TFCC so far. We look forward to your continued support and help in making the new TC highly successful too. Best Regards Raj and Mark ------------------------------------------------------------------------
