Chhavi Jain AI Platform & Edge Systems | Strategy & Execution | IEEE SPS Vice Chair | Qualcomm Alum San Diego, California, United States ================================================================== https://www.linkedin.com/posts/chhavij_ai-cloudcomputing-quantumcomputing-share-7457959107745038336-B-Wg?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop&rcm=ACoAAAAIK-4B8eEQoj-SafeE2HMgj6gvu3g5rOU Hosted an excellent IEEE SPS San Diego technical session today with Prof. Rajkumar Buyya (IEEE Fellow, ACM Fellow) on the future of Cloud and Quantum Computing. One thing that stood out clearly throughout the discussion: AI’s rapid progress is deeply tied to advances in computing infrastructure. A few major themes from the session: • Cloud computing has evolved from simple infrastructure hosting into an intelligent utility layer powering AI, IoT, distributed systems, and increasingly quantum workloads. • Serverless and multi-cloud architectures are becoming critical for scalability, resilience, and cost optimization — especially for AI-native applications. • Edge + cloud orchestration is no longer optional. As IoT devices and real-time AI systems grow, latency-aware distributed execution becomes a core systems problem. • Quantum computing is moving from isolated experimentation toward cloud-accessible infrastructure, enabling hybrid classical-quantum workflows. Prof. Buyya also shared fascinating real-world examples from the Aneka platform and research around: (1) deadline-aware resource allocation (2) cloud federation (3) disaster management systems (4) healthcare analytics (5) quantum function-as-a-service (QFaaS) (6) simulation tooling for quantum-cloud environments One particularly important insight: The future is unlikely to be “cloud-only” or “edge-only.” It will be an intelligent continuum across edge devices, distributed clouds, AI accelerators, and eventually quantum systems. Really appreciate Prof. Buyya taking the time to engage with the IEEE San Diego community and share decades of systems research and practical experience. Excited to continue building more high-quality AI systems and infrastructure discussions within the IEEE and San Diego technology ecosystem. #AI #CloudComputing #QuantumComputing #DistributedSystems #EdgeAI #AgenticAI #IEEE #SanDiego #Infrastructure #MultiCloud #QuantumAI ---------------- The best way to learn is by learning directly from those who have shaped the field.
